Seriously, this was the happiest thanksgiving I've ever had. EVER! I've had 27 of these little buggers and this was hands down my favorite (that, y'know, I remember lol)... And I do miss the holidays at my great grandmas when I was a little girl. But this? This was all MY family. ...Not a bunch of random child molesting uncles that I hate... but my parents, my ENTIRE family of orientation (siblings/their partners), my entire family of procreation, and one of the "family friends" that's been there my entire life. Plus I got to play with a baby who LIKED ME and who giggled and squealed when I kissed and played with her.
My mom whined a lot but she helped me.
There were no fights.
There was only one argument and it was mostly joking in manner... Larry brought up the "foreskin is not a birth defect" sticker I have on my fridge and I started to say something (defensive lol) when Jacob chimed in and mom shut him DOWN with a "aww, you still worried about your penis?" comment lol. Jacob jumped up and said "MAN! I AIN'T GONNA PUT UP WITH THIS SHIT!" while his girlfriend laughed hysterically and opened the door and ran out. About three seconds later he comes back in, runs across the room, grabs his coat and says "its cold out there." and we all laughed at him and he slammed the door again before coming back in, removing the coat again, and removing the cat from his place.
Jacob and Nichole brought their puppy... who really seemed to enjoy my cats...who did not enjoy the puppy. :D That chaos made me crazy. I'd like to get another dog... but not introduce them on a day when there's more people than have EVER been in my house at once! lol
If everyone hadn't eaten much later than originally planned (Jacob and Nichole ate at 3, Larry was supposed to have eaten at 3 but they ended up waiting til fucking FIVE, Jon and Megan ate about 3:30...) and came with full hunger, our 7pm dinnertime would have been perfect and there wouldn't have been much extra food. :)
As is, I sent a ton of leftovers home with Jon and Megan who both seemed excited about the prospect of eating the things that were at my end of the table (they were right next to Kiernan) and while we have an ENTIRE turkey breast remaining with stuffing in my crockpot, we tore the bigger one to pieces. There's a LITTLE bit left...but not much lol. There's about two sandwiches worth of ham left... The casseroles were a much bigger hit than I thought although I think I mismeasured the spices in my sweet potato casserole. I didn't like it but everyone else did lol.
We have 3 pumpkin pies (I'm SHOCKED about that one) out of the 5 I made, only one piece of the peanut butter pie was eaten...but I kinda kept it on the d-l for brian lol. We didn't even take the reese peanut butter pie out because, well, I don' have any more chocolate cool whip to make it again lol. and OH MY GOD. it was so rich I couldn't eat an entire piece (I cut pies into 6ths normally). Its soooooooooooooo good. mmmmmmmmm.
We forgot about the red velvet cake and the pecan pie. Darn. I gotta eat 'em. I lost the bananas before making the banana pudding. I'm not looking forward to finding them. lol. I went ahead and made it with a little banana extract added to the pudding mix. It was a hit because there's only 2-3 little servings left over. I did a layer of cookies, a layer of pudding, a layer of cookies, a layer of pudding mixed with an entire tub of cool whip and extract, another layer of cookies and another layer of cool whip plain. They DEVOURED it. :)
There was only a little bowl of stuffing left. Proud of that. Also glad taht I got whole wheat into my whole family. muhahahah.
I had half a quart bag of mashed potatoes left and megan took them home saying they were the creamiest mashed potatoes she'd eaten and she even liked that they had the skins of them lol. I used buttermilk, butter, and sour cream to cream 'em....but paul did the mashing and i gave him the credit.
Mom's deviled eggs were gone before the plate went all the way around the table. And that's after we all picked and ate 40 of them while cooking lol. We still had a whole tray of 20 eggs and...yeah. Gone. :)
The ONLY thing everybody didn't want to eat was the broccoli casserole but Barb, Chelsea, Tasha, me, and Brian all ate a ton and Megan took the rest of it home with her...she didn't know it was there. lol
And Tasha and Brian tore the 7 layer salad a new one. :) between just the two of them, they ate over half of it. :)
The turkey? not tooting my own horn, but the crock pot turkey was the BEST bird I've ever eaten. It smelled weird cooking, I'll give it that... But the combo of lemon pepper, fresh lemon juice, a whole bag of pearl onions that KILLED me peeling and cutting and a huge handful of garlic cloves shoved in a turkey breast along with a whole pound of butter? yeah. That was fucking fabulous. And as I said, there's nothing left but bones. lol I'd NEVER seen a bird tore apart like that so i think everyone liked it. Crock pot turkey = WIN!
Brian worked his ass off especially at the last bit. I was freaking out because stuff wasn't done yet, blah blah blah, and my back was HURTING and I HADTOSITDOWN. He shoved me out of the way, put the corn on the cob on, started the gravy, finished the cornbread and toasted the rolls all without any gripe at all. I know I bitch about him from time to time but man he really knows when to step in lol.
After the meal, my youngest brother and his girlfriend took off before I even got up from the table. No offer to even put their soft drink bottles in the trashcan. That kinda pissed me off but whatever. But Megan? oh my god Megan and Chelsea tagteamed cleaning, scraping, whatever... packing food up and putting it away. They got the dishes to Brian who loaded the first load in the dishwasher. (there's two more to go but everythings been rinsed so yeah) They broke the cardtable down, Mom and Barb bagged up food and I realized there were so many people, I could go sit and rest my aching (ACHING) back for a bit. I felt like an ass after I realized it was all done and I was sitting down but y'know what? I cooked the WHOLE FUCKING MEAL except for deviled eggs and mashing potatoes. :)
I sent Megan a text and asked her if she wanted to try and start over and be friends. Neither one of us have many friends and she obviously loves my daughter who obviously loves her... so why not? We've both grown up and she's been with my brother EIGHT YEARS so it ain't like she's going anywhere anytime soon.
I felt bad though... the last few placemats i just randomly wrote names on them after Kiernan decorated them without looking and realized the one I wrote Aunt Megan on was also one that Brian had drawn devil horns holding up a halo. Yeah...way to make me feel like a bitch. lol She thought they were adorable though. She and Jon actually both teared up when they saw them. And Paul full fledge cried. ...Tear running down his face and all.
We argued for a bit about a grace...I said they could do it as long as they did not say Jesus and said "gods and goddesses" figuring they'd let it go. Paul said no, he'd do it, since he's agnostic I was ok with it lol. All he said was "thank you for this bountiful food and the family we have to share it with. May we all be able to do this again next year" and he was all choked up. He's very emotional anymore. haha.
Final tally around my table from head to head, Kiernan, next to her right, Nichole, Jacob, Vick, Paul, Barb, Chelsea, the other head was Tasha and Celia, me, Brian, Mom, Megan, Jon, and Larry...next to Kiernan.
15 people in my little house. It was AWESOME. I am still excited that they all showed up. I kind of wish a couple of my other "family" showed up that I invited... but in reality, I only had 15 matching plates. And while Celia is only 5 months old and isn't eating, we used one of the plates for turkey to be passed around lol.
I have a huge pineapple rash on my face (I'm allergic but love it lol) but that's a small price to pay for frog eye salad and a happy wonderful holiday.
Tonight's dinner is gonna be lazy...I'm turning the crock pots (I keep typing cock pot lmao) on and going with it. So turkey, cranberry stuffing, and country style green beans along with whatever leftovers we want. :)
I hope you all had a happy thanksgiving. I know I did. :)
